Door Stops

Door stops are not as simplistic as they may appear. These objects come in two basic varieties. Some door stops go in front of a door. They work by holding open the door so that it does not shut on anyone coming in or out. People use door stops in this way when they have to make multiple trips in and out of a room, particularly if they will be carrying something heavy. Business owners should note, however, that it is a violation of safety regulations in some places to prop open fire doors.

The other kinds of door stops also are called door hinges. These are used to keep a door from swinging open too far and damaging a wall. They are used in many schools where the metal doors are very heavy. This type of stop usually has an eye and hook or other type of fastener. A rope or metal wire is attached to the back of the doorknob, and it is to be fastened to the hook on the wall. It also serves to keep the door open. There are some basic door stops intended to keep doors open that are simply large rubber feet placed on the wall behind the door to keep the door from slamming into the wall.

Finding good door stops means looking around when you are in gift or specialty shops. While you can use something you have just lying around, you can find decorative pieces that will look like they belong in the room where you are using them. These stops typically are wedge-shaped although some are very heavy cubic objects instead. They work by not allowing the door to move from weight rather than from basic science. You can find them in various colors and sizes. Stops are a unique little item that many people need in their homes or businesses.
