Stop Hair Loss
The key to help stop hair loss is to determine what is causing the problem
in the first place. Everyone loses some hair as a matter of course throughout
the day. You likely do not notice hair falling out as you slip on your
shirt, hop in your car, or take a ride in the elevator. Still, your hair
is falling out, and there are ways to stop hair loss if you need to. This
is an area where you should trust your doctor, not your hair stylist. Some
hair products are bad for your hair, and others simply will not work.
The first key is to rule out any medical problems. Some medical conditions,
such as hypothyroidism, can contribute to thinning hair. If your hair comes
out in clumps, such as in the shower, then you should check with your doctor
to see if you can stop hair loss by being treated for another problem.
Changing your diet is another way to stop hair loss. Your hair is a reflection
of your general nutrition, and poor diet will result in dry and brittle
hair. Try getting extra vitamins and minerals, through diet or a supplement,
to stop hair loss in its early stages.
Another reason for losing hair is from your styling techniques. Wearing
your hair in a ponytail everyday or in cornrows pulls the hair taut against
your scalp. Frequent use of these hairstyles will mean your hair will fall
out more easily. Other hair treatments, even ones recommended by stylists
such as hot oil treatments, can scar the scalp. To stop hair loss in these
situations, let your hair down - literally. While it is acceptable to wear
your hair in these styles from time to time, doing so for weeks or months
at a time will be damaging.
